It is intended for analysts and designers who want to know how to use Oracle Designer to model, design and implement business systems. The tutorial is installed with the product. It is available by folding out Start, Programs, Oracle Designer 6i Tutorial. The Tutorial aims to: - provide you with practical hands-on experience using Oracle Designer 6i - reinforce concepts explained in the Oracle Designer 6i help system and other user information. To follow the Tutorial, you MUST have the tutorial document in front of you. Prerequisites ------------- Before you start the Tutorial, you must have a username and password to log onto the database you will be using. Other prerequisites are listed in the tutorial document. Using the program items in the Oracle Designer 6i Tutorial folder ------------------------------------------------------------ Below is a brief description of what each program does and when to use it. The use of these programs is more fully described in the tutorial document. >> About the Tutorial You used this to open this file and read this text. >> Oracle Designer for Tutorial User Use this to start Oracle Designer to follow the tutorial. (When you are using Oracle Designer for real, use the program in the Oracle Designer 6i folder.) This program starts Oracle Designer with the working directory set to \CTUTX72\TUTORIAL. This ensures that: (1) items produced by the Oracle Designer tools and utilities during the course of the tutorial are kept separate from any other work you do with Oracle Designer (2) you won't have to specify the location of the object libraries and templates required for the tutorial, only their names. NOTE: To run the Tutorial successfully, the working directory set by this program MUST be writeable. >> Drop Tutorial Tables Use this before starting the tutorial for the first time AND when you have completely finished the tutorial. This program drops the following tables from the current user: CUSTOMERS ORDERS ITEMS PRODUCTS PRICED_PRODUCTS >> Populate Tutorial [Tables] Use this when asked to do so in the tutorial document, which will be after you have created tables. This program populates the PRODUCTS table with data, so that you don't have to enter the data yourself.
